Text Case Converter

Convert text to UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case and kebab-case.

Why use this tool?

Change text to UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case or kebab-case all at once - for headings, variable names and URLs.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste your text.
  2. Find the style you need in the list.
  3. Click its copy button.

The case styles and where they're used

UPPERCASE and lowercase change every letter. Title Case capitalises the first letter of each word, for headings and titles. The remaining styles are naming conventions from programming, which also remove spaces: camelCase (firstName) is standard for variables in JavaScript and Java; PascalCase (FirstName) is used for class and component names; snake_case (first_name) is the norm in Python and SQL column names; and kebab-case (first-name) is used for URLs, CSS classes and file names.

The tool shows every style at once, so you can copy whichever one you need without converting several times.

Title Case rules vary

Style guides disagree on which small words to capitalise in titles. AP and Chicago style both keep short articles and prepositions lowercase ("The Lord of the Rings"), while some publications capitalise every word. The tool capitalises the first letter of every word, which is predictable but may need a quick manual pass for words like "of", "and" and "the" if you follow a specific style guide.

Title Case also lowercases the rest of each word, so brand names and acronyms with unusual capitalisation (iPhone, NASA, eBay) come out as Iphone, Nasa and Ebay and need fixing by hand afterwards.

Tips for code identifiers

When converting a phrase into a variable or file name, punctuation counts as a word break, so an apostrophe splits a word: "User's first name" becomes userSFirstName in camelCase and user_s_first_name in snake_case. Remove apostrophes and other punctuation before converting for clean identifiers, and avoid starting identifiers with a number, which most programming languages don't allow.

For URLs (slugs), kebab-case in lowercase is the safe choice: it's readable, search engines treat hyphens as word separators, and it avoids case-sensitivity problems on servers.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between camelCase and PascalCase?

Only the first letter: camelCase starts lowercase (userName), PascalCase starts uppercase (UserName).

Which case should I use for URLs?

Lowercase kebab-case, like how-to-make-bread. Hyphens are read as word separators by search engines.

Why is a word in my title capitalised that shouldn't be?

The tool capitalises every word. Style guides like AP keep short words (a, of, the) lowercase, so adjust those by hand if needed.
