Background Remover

Remove solid or near-solid backgrounds (product shots, logos, green screens) by color, with edge-connected removal.

Why use this tool?

Remove a plain background (white, solid color or green screen) to get a transparent PNG - ideal for product photos, logos and signatures. It works by color, not AI, so busy photo backgrounds won't work well.

How to use it

  1. Upload the image.
  2. Click the background to pick its color and adjust the tolerance.
  3. Download the PNG with a transparent background.

How color-based removal works

This tool removes a background by color rather than with AI. You click the background to sample its color, and pixels close enough to that color become transparent. The tolerance setting decides what "close enough" means: a low tolerance removes only near-exact matches, a higher one also removes shades and soft shadows.

In the default mode, removal starts from the edges of the image and spreads inward through connected background pixels. That means a white product on a white background keeps any white areas inside the product (like a label), as long as they're enclosed by other colors. The alternative mode removes the color everywhere in the image, which suits logos where the background shows through gaps, such as the inside of the letter O.

What it's good at

It works best on images with a plain, even background: product photos on white or grey, scanned signatures, logos on a solid color, and green-screen shots. The result is a PNG with real transparency that you can place on any background, in documents, slides or online stores.

It isn't suited to everyday photos with busy backgrounds (people outdoors, rooms, landscapes). Those need AI-based segmentation, which this tool deliberately doesn't use so that everything stays in your browser.

Tips for a clean edge

Raise the tolerance gradually. Too low leaves a faint halo of background color around the subject; too high starts eating into similar colors in the subject itself. Sample the background close to the subject, where its color matters most.

For signatures, scan in good light and crop tightly first; the ink should be clearly darker than the paper. For product shots, an evenly lit background without shadows gives the cleanest result.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded?

No. The removal runs in your browser and the image never leaves your device.

Why is there a white outline around my subject?

Edge pixels blend the subject and background colors. Increase the tolerance slightly, or sample the background color right next to the subject.

Can it remove a busy background, like a street behind a person?

Not well. It removes backgrounds by color, so it needs a plain background. Busy scenes need an AI tool.
